Hello and Happy Sunday to all of you!

I hope you had a chance to get out and enjoy the weather now that it finally stopped raining!

It was another busy week for Rotary. Dick Jonkowski was our speaker last week. Dick was his usual entertaining self with his jokes and promoting laughter as good for your health. He also entertained us with his stories and a sample of his collectables which he brought to
show us at last week's meeting. I think everyone was entertained by Dick's presentation.  This week we will be holding our annual fundraiser, the club Auction. The masters of ceremony this week are the unparalleled and dynamic duo and auctioneers supreme, Jim Cook and Lee Hennen. See Jim I did list your name ahead of Lee's this time! Happy now? :)  We need you to bring or drop off auction items and if you can provide a brief description and value, this will help our auctioneers too. In addition to all the wonderful items members will bring, the club will have items to auction like several foursomes with beverage cart for upcoming golf tournaments and a brand new golf bag will be available for auction as well. So, come on out and bring your wallets as we get ready for another great year for our auction.

Last Friday, Kathy Klehr, Linda Plum, Barb Danielson, Ron Smith, Chuck Berg and myself all attended the annual District 5950 conference held at the Radisson Blu at Mall of America. Congratulations to Barb Danielson who received the Service Above Self award at the Awards Breakfast. This award is certainly well-deserved as Barb has contributed in so many ways to her community with the Rotary club and her other volunteer activities.  In addition, our club received the following awards; Honorable Mention for Youth Service, Award of Merit for Community Service and Honorable Mention for International Service. I was proud to be able to accept these awards for our club. The event also showcased all the food that had been collected by members and then in the main atrium of the Mall the Rotarians (550 in attendance) bagged up the food to give out to youth for their backpacks in the summer youth programs. Thanks to all of you for the donation of 135 jars of jelly to this great cause. I was truly proud to be a part of such a great effort to provide another wonderful service to our communities.

REMINDER:  Tuesday, May 6 we will also be meeting at 5PM at the Faith Lutheran Church parking lot to do our annual Roadside Clean Up. Thanks to Charlie Sunder for organizing this once again. I will pass the sign up sheet again this week for volunteers but even if you didn't sign up,  feel free to meet at the church parking lot at 5 ready to help. The address for the church is 150 130th Street West, Shakopee.

In Peace and Service,

Sheila McNeill
President, 2013-14
