Hello and Happy Mid October to all!

Last week we had our first "student of the Month" from the Takota learning Center introduced to us.  Ruben Sandoval and his teacher Mr. Ryan, whom he chose as his guest, attended our Rotary meeting.  Ruben told us why he chose Mr. Ryan,  his math teacher who has done so much to help him advance his learning of math in school. Nell Bury introduced Ruben to us and we were so happy to publicly acknowledge this recognition of his outstanding performance in school. We look forward to many more students in the coming months to be presented to our club in recognition of their educational achievements at the Takota Learning Center.  Art Quinn and Chuck Berg both did a wonderful job describing what is the Rotary Foundation and how the money is used for so many local and international projects.  We handed out letters for the foundation annual giving campaign. You can pick yours  up at the meeting this week if you didn't get it last week.  We hope all of you will see the benefit in giving to this very special foundation in which all Rotarians have a chance to make a difference in their own communities,  as well has around the world.  "Every Rotarian Every Year" means if all of us give, no matter the amount we can achieve such great progress in the goal of world peace and humanitarian outreach.  I am asking  you to consider making a donation to the Foundation, no matter the amount, even $25 if that is within your budget, to help our club to achieve a goal of 100 percent participation!  What a great  way to showcase the dedication of our club if we had every single person that is a member of Shakopee Rotary give something  to the Foundation. WOW!  Thank you in advance for your consideration and cooperation to achieve this goal.

This week we have Lorri Helkamp introducing Scott Welle. He will be bringing a discussion to us on "The 10 things you must know for health, happiness and High Performance."  Who couldn't use this information?  I look forward to hearing more of what Scott has to say to us at the meeting. Mark and I attended the Pumpkins in the Park Event this last Sat. and thanks to all of  you who contributed the bags of candy. We had over 800 kids come through the Trick or Treat trail and it was so fun to see their faces as we gave out the candy.  Great community event!
We welcome our senior and most wise Songmaster Jack Cole to lead us in a tune and Dave Paradise will be the lucky guy to be our Finemaster.  The greeters for this week will be Angie Whitcomb and Barb Danielson.

One last thing of note, Linda Plum our Sunshine Lady and I visited the home of Bill Runge and his lovely wife,  Barbara. We made a Rotary goodwill visit to check in and see how they both were doing. We brought homemade cookies that Linda made and a mum plant to brighten up their day.  We had a very nice visit and I know they both really appreciated having us stop by. Bill is looking forward to attending another meeting in the near future. They have such fond memories of all their years in youth exchange with Rotary too and the walls of their home are testimony to the many students they had visit over the years,  They both say,  "Hello" to all and miss the Shakopee Rotary Club meetings.  I told Bill we will be so happy to see him at another meeting in the near future.

Also, this week we will be using the services of the mighty auctioneers Hennen and Cook to auction off a table for the Saints Foundation annual gala at Mystic Lake on Saturday, November 9 this year. The table of 8 goes for $150 per person if purchasing directly from the Foundation. The Shakopee Rotary Club is a sponsor this year and purchased a table for the gala and any proceeds from the auction will go to our club's operational funds.  Check your calendar, ask friends and buy some tix to attend a great event for a great cause!
