President's Weekly Message for Meeting of Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2013
Hello all!

Last week the club got to hear Mark and I give a presentation about our recent trip to Cuba with Tony and Marcia Spagnolo and Lynn Salmi, a resident of Shakopee. Despite the projector and some technical details, I received very positive feedback on the program. I think people were able to learn a great deal more about this place since Americans have not been allowed to travel there for over 50 years. Thanks to all who attended the meeting. Angie Whitcomb also announced that the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring another trip to Cuba in February, If anyone is interested please see her for information. The club was also very delighted that last week for the first time in quite a while, Bill Runge was able to come to a meeting! It was so wonderful to see Bill's smiling face and we look forward to seeing him at future meetings when he can make it.
This week we will have the always smiling face of Tim Whitcomb who will introduce us to this week's speaker. Merry Mears-Theis will be leading a presentation on the Lifetree Cafe which is a community outreach program. I am sure it will be interesting and informative so, please mark your calendars and make your way to Dangerfield's this week. In addition, this week your Greeters will be the likes of Aloisio(Chris and Chris) and Bill Wermerskirchen (now back in the saddle after recent knee surgery). They will be our greeters for the next three meetings now. Mark McNeill and Ed Shukle will lead us in song and the talented Tammy Laurent will be here to extract more money from you as she performs the Finemaster duties.
REMINDER: There is a STRIVE meeting this Tuesday, at 11:30AM at Dangerfields for those interested in volunteering in the program. See Nell Bury for more information.
Couple of things to note on your calendars for next week. Mark and I will not be attending the meeting of September 24 so, Kathy Klehr has been kind enough to step in and take on this duty of leading the meeting that day. In addition, we will be hosting the first meeting of this fiscal year at Arizona's. Please be sure you drive your car to Arizona's next week for that meeting. I also want to note that I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the menu and welcoming they have planned for our meeting there. Lorri Helkamp and I had a very good meeting with their catering and meeting planner this week, and we have some exciting opportunities to work with Arizona's to hold additional events and possible fundraising activities there this year. I would really like to see this work since they are hosting our pull tabs venue for us. Our attendance is important to them, so please make an effort to be there and attend the meeting at Arizona's on the 24th of September. I will put out more details in my next message at the end of the week.
In Rotary Service,
Sheila McNeill
President 2013-14
