President's Weekly Message Meeting Tues., Sept. 24 at Arizona's Restaurant

Happy Friday Everyone!
I am sending this early since I will be leaving town tomorrow and i want to be sure to help out Kathy Klehr who will be your leader for the meeting on Sept. 24.
Last week we were delighted to have Merry Mears-Theis, introduced by Tim Whitcomb and she spoke about the interesting concept called "Lifetree Cafe." A relatively new program to Shakopee, she explained how she is the leader of this group which meets on Sunday nights for one hour, (6:30 PM at 909 S. Marschall Road) and has open table discussions on a variety of relevant and current topics which, expand people's knowledge and continue to connect community. We also welcomed her parents who were very active in Rotary and her father, Virgil Mears was a former Shakopee Rotary President and District Governor back in the early 80's. I encourage you to connect with Merry to learn more about this interesting group discussion and a way to make more contacts with the community. Free snacks too!
This week we will have Art Quinn introduce our guest speaker, Steve Solbrack who will tell us about the exciting District 5950 Safewater Project in the Honduras. He will bring us many pictures and information so we can learn more about how Rotary continues its mission to help people around the world. Please try to attend as this is our first meeting of the new fiscal year at Arizona's. I am excited because we had a meeting with their catering people and they promise to improve and make better than before our experience at Arizona's. We will meet again as we used to in the upstairs conference room. Kathy Klehr will be leading the meeting AND she will be your Songmaster this week. Way to go Kathy! Your Finemaster this week is Chris Kost and I believe this will be his first time as our Finemaster so, I am sure he will do a great job extracting a few dollars from you guys! Our Greeters table will be hosted by the Chris Aloisio team and Bill Wermerskirchen.
Also, Kathy with the help of our auctioneers supreme, Hennen and Koch will be auctioning off a table for 8 to the Scott County Historical Society's Swing Dance Fundraiser on Oct. 12. The event is at Ridges at Sand Creek golf course in Jordan from 7-10:30 and includes the Roseville Big Band orchestra, appetizers, full cash bar and silent auction. So, bring your dollars for bidding and come on out with your fellow Rotarians to have a night of fun and fellowship and help out a good cause. All proceeds of the auction will go to our Club's operation funds.
In addition, your Board has decided to help out the event of Oct. 12 sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, "Pumpkins in the Park." A family friendly, non-scary Halloween celebration for children ages 10 and under. We will begin collecting bags of candy at the next couple of meetings.. We will begin collecting these bags at the Sept. 24 meeting. Please remember to bring a bag of Halloween candy. The kids in the community will be grateful for your donations.
Have a great weekend. I will see you in two weeks.
In Rotary Service,
Sheila McNeill
President 2013-14
