Shakopee Celebrates Reading was held on Tuesday, April 16th at the Shakopee High School. This is one of our club's favorite events and clearly a great time for the close to 700 first graders in the Shakopee School District! There was so much joy and excitement on the kid's faces and the hopped off the buses and headed into the High School. The auditorium was full of so much energy and everyone was smiling. Each child went home with a book and a small backpack of goodies.
This event couldn't be done without the hard work of Barb Brekke and her committee behind the scenes. Thank you to the Shakopee Fire Department, Shakopee Police Department, Shakopee Public Schools, and Shakopee Area Catholic School for making this possible. Thank you to Wendy's Wiggle Jiggle and Jam & Harold Armstrong for the fabulous entertainment! Of course a big thank you to The Cat in the Hat (Chuck Berg) and Sammy the Saber for getting the kids pumped up for the event! Thanks to all of the Shakopee Rotarians for helping out at the event and prior to the event as well.
