Shakopee Rotary - Weekly Update

Hello Shakopee Rotary!

First I want to say thank you to Tim Whitcomb for stepping in for me at the last minute last week, and running the meeting...I owe you Tim!  Also, thank you to Jumpin Joe Johson and our very own Barb Steinhauser for their presentation on skydiving….I’m crushed that I missed this program! 

REMINDER!!!!!  IT’S BOOK SALE WEEK!!!  This week we do not have our regularly scheduled club meeting on Tuesday as it is our annual book sale kick off event week!  We will be meeting this Thursday, March 24th from 6:00PM to 8:30PM at the Trade Secret Store in Southbridge, where we will be serving pizza, beer, wine, and water.  $13 for adults, and $5 for children.  Looking forward to seeing everyone there! 

 

BOOK SALE UPDATE:  Reminder, we are in "Full Book Collection Mode" at this time.  Here is what you need to know right now.

1.     We NEED Books! 

2.     We are having our next drop off and sorting party tomorrow, Tuesday, March 22nd, from 6:30PM to 8:30PM on the location in Southbridge, which is right next to Wal-Mart (at the old Trade Secret location).  It is likely as we continue to collect books throughout the week that we will have additional sorting party dates and times to ensure we are all set for the sale kick off.  If that is the case, we will email the group when those additional dates are times are.  THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!

3.     Please Continue to help spread the word of our sale via word of mouth, or email.  The committee has emailed out flier to the club members….please use those in our effort to have a great fundraiser this year!!!

4.     Any questions related to the book sale, please contact Rob D, Jason M, or Mike S.  THANK YOU EVERYONE!

2011 District Conference:  Reminder, the 2011 District Conference will be held on April 15th - 17th up in Alexandria, MN at the Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center. 

HAPPY HOUR!!!:  Thank you to everyone who attended our St.Patricks Day Happy Hour.  I was not in attendance, and did not get an update, but hopefully someone remembers what happened, and can share limited details at our upcoming book sale kick off event this week!

 

Here are a some up coming dates to keep in mind.  

1.  March 22nd:  Loaves and Fishes project @ St.Marks in Shakopee.  5-7 Volunteers needed from 2-5PM for preparation, and 10-18 Volunteers needed from 5pm to 7pm for serving and cleanup.  (Sign up sheet to be passed around at weekly meetings OR email Barb Brekke)

 

2.  March 22nd:  Book drop off and sorting party at book sale location in Southbridge.  6:30PM to 8:30PM

 

3.  March 25-27 & April 1-3:  Book Sale Dates.  Mark your calendar, more details to follow. 

 

4.  March 29th:  Make a Wish Foundation – Kelly Thomas (Dangerfields) 

  

5.  April 5th:  District 5950 World Community Service Competitive Grants in Africa - Tim Murphy (Dangerfields) 

 

6.  April 8th:  Trip to the Science Museum (More details to come) 

 

7.  April 12th:  Vocational Talk / Ice Breakers - Tony Spagnolo / Angie Whitcomb (Dangerfields) 

 

8.  April 26th:  Shakopee Celebrates Reading (More details to come)

 

9.  April 30th:  Bridging Event in Shakopee – Save the Date (More details to come)

 

10.  May 3rd:  Murault / Paul Harris Awards Program at Canterbury Inn.  (More details to come)

 

11.  June (Date TBD):  Twins Game (More details to come)

 

12.  June 23rd:  President Exit Meeting (Dangerfields)

 

13.  June 30th:  District Governor Installation Program (Canterbury Inn)
